The Pdf Method for Turbulent Combustion
نویسنده
چکیده
PDF methods provide a means of calculating the properties of turbulent reacting flobs. They have been successfully applied to many turbulent flames, including some with finite-rate kinetic effects. Here the methods are reviewed with an emphasis on computational issues and on their application to turbulent combustion.

Multi-Environment Probability Density Function Method for Modeling Turbulent Combustion Using Detailed Chemistry
One of the most important issues to address in turbulent combustion calculations is the intense nonlinear interaction between fluid mixing and finite-rate chemistry. In combustion processes which are characterized by fast chemistry, use of the flamelet model (Peter, 1984) or conditional moment closure (CMC) (Bilger, 1993) based on a conserved scalar is known to be quite accurate in making quali...
متن کاملPDF-based simulations of turbulent spray combustion in a constant-volume chamber under diesel-engine-like conditions
Transported probability density function (PDF) methods are used to account for turbulent fluctuations in composition and temperature in simulations of liquid fuel injection (n-heptane), vaporization, mixing, autoignition, combustion and soot formation for a constant-volume combustion chamber. Both stochastic Lagrangian particle and stochastic Eulerian field methods are used to solve the modeled...
متن کاملPDF modeling and simulation of premixed turbulent combustion
The use of probability density function (PDF) methods for turbulent combustion simulations is very attractive because arbitrary finite-rate chemistry can be exactly taken into account. PDF methods are well developed for non-premixed turbulent combustion. However, many real flames involve a variety of mixing regimes (non-premixed, partially-premixed and premixed turbulent combustion), and the de...
متن کاملAnalysis of Multiple Scalar Large-Eddy Simulation/Probability Density Function Formulation for Turbulent Spray Combustion
A large eddy simulation (LES)/probability density function (PDF) method is proposed for modeling turbulent spray combustion. The PDF method has the advantage that the chemical source term appears closed but requires models for the small scale mixing process. The transport equation for the joint-scalar PDF is high dimensional and solved using a Lagrangian technique. A stable and consistent numer...
متن کاملSmall scales, many species and the manifold challenges of turbulent combustion
Amajor goal of combustion research is to develop accurate, tractable, predictive models for the phenomena occurring in combustion devices, which predominantly involve turbulent flows. With the focus on gasphase, non-premixed flames, recent progress is reviewed, and the significant remaining challenges facing models of turbulent combustion are examined. The principal challenges are posed by the ...
